Research Interests

Prof. Peijs' research interests cover the whole ‘chain of knowledge’ from processing and characterisation to the performance evaluation and applications of polymer composites. Fundamental research focuses on the investigation and modelling of all aspects related to structure-property relationships in polymer composites, including the development of micromechanical models, which can be used for future intelligent material design. His group has pioneered the development of eco-composites; this includes work on bio-based composites and the development of fully recyclable all-polymer composites such as PURE® and Tegris® now commercialised by Lankhorst Pure-Composites BV and its licensee by Milliken. In recent years, the group's work has focused on the utilization of nano-scale architectures in polymer composites, the creation of high-performance fibres, intelligent nanocomposite fibres and polymer films for sensors applications and smart textiles, and the development of novel materials based on renewable resources.
